Packer Press publishes mainstream and historical fiction for the Mormon market. Founded in 1998, Packer Press is a young, but growing company.
We currently have several projects in development, all focusing on the day-to-day living experiences of historical and modern Mormons. Our fiction is characterized by people who grow and adapt to the various pressures of life in situations that any of us, at any time, may face. Sometimes they make mistakes and learn from them, and sometimes they don't.
They are not always the best, or worst people. Some of the "villains" have redeeming qualities, while some of the "heroes" make their share of mistakes. And the rest are just like us, trying to live a good life in a world that is complex and sometimes difficult.
Start with Fire in the Snow, the first book of our "Trilogy of Fire" by popular writer John McRae, and experience as close to first-hand as possible the harrowing, tragic, and ultimately rewarding experience of 20 converts from Great Britain as they embark to the "Promised Land" as part of the Martin Handcart company.
Then, read Fire and Fury which depicts the tension and disruption felt by the entire church as Johnston's army marches to invade Salt Lake City. Follow some of the characters from the original group of "Tregale's Twenty," as they call themselves, as they team up with the Fancher wagon train and experience tragedy at Mountain Meadows.
Soul Fire completes the "Trilogy of Fire" with Tregale's Twenty and the church at large facing the vice and corruption surrounding the encampment of Johnston's army, with drunken teamsters and outlaws spreading lawlessness throughout the valley and attacking the very fabric of Mormon society.
